Transparency
in Layers
Paper Weaving
I interweaving my handmade paper and other materials to create paper weaves using color, line and texture.
In Mothers Cries (below), I used a linoleum block print, ink drawing and handmade paper to create the work.
PAPER Weaving Transparency
Layers of paper and color are vital elements in my work. How color, line and form create movement and rhythm. To tells a story and create conversations in layers. I see beauty and colors all around me in the Maine landscape and in my travels. All the photos posted on my website are mine. I am currently working on a series of work called Transparency in Light. Paper weave, handmade paper and light. Backlight shows what is hidden…another side of the story.
Transparency
In Layers…through light.
I am exploring the word, Transparency. How it applies to our present world. In my handmade paper process, I make very thin colorful papers using using overbeat Abaca as the base fiber. Then, I add cotton or flex ratio to the base mix or in the color pulp mixture.
In addition, I am experimenting with translucent vellum (see below). I take sketchbook pages and scan the images on the vellum.
How does layers of papers communicate feelings and emotions of experiences of living in today and my reactions to it?
Sketchbook-Journals.
My sketchbook-journals (Place Markers) are the record of my experiences and art practice. I have over 20plus years of my life in snapshot time capsules within those pages. Most books are titled with a beginning date and/or topics within. I work in several at any giving time.
